version 1.01 Compiled 11/01/92
CONFXREF is NOT compatible with Wildcat! versions before 3.0
A public domain utility for Wildcat! SysOps
from the Charlatan's Cabin BBS
(213) 654-7337
WHAT IT DOES:
=============
CONFXREF produces a detailed report of your local and TNET echo mail
conferences which allows you to quickly detect conference numbering or
naming errors. It collects information from a variety of sources, including
Wildcat!'s CONFDESC.DAT file, your TNET configuration files, your Tomcat!
configuration file, and even the CONTROL.DAT files found in .QWK packets.
Here's a segment of a typical report:

SETTING UP:
===========
First, be sure that MAKEWILD.DAT and CONFDESC.DAT are in a directory that is
in your DOS path. Also be sure that you have BRUN40.EXE available in the
path. This Microsoft runtime module is required for the program to run.
If you don't already have it, it's probably available on the BBS where you
got this program, or you may call the Charlatan's Cabin BBS. See below for
details.
CONFXREF can be run with NO configuration files to check, but this is rather
pointless, since it then produces ONLY a listing of your conferences.
Step 1: Place your TNET configuration file(s) (or copies of them) in the
directory where you'll run CONFXREF.
Step 2: Extract CONTROL.DAT from a current .QWK file from your hub. If you
call more than one hub, rename each CONTROL.DAT to match the TNET
configuration file it is associated with. For example, if your
hub configuration is: BIGBOARD.CFG, then you should extract the
CONTROL.DAT file from the .QWK and rename it BIGBOARD.DAT. Do this
for each TNET configuration file.
Step 3: Make sure that TOMCAT.CFG, CONFDESC.DAT, and MAKEWILD.DAT are in your
DOS path.
RUNNING THE PROGRAM:
====================
Start CONFXREF with no command line switches. It will load your conference
definitions from CONFDESC.DAT and then ask you for the first TNET configuration
file. Enter the file name. The ".CFG" extension is assumed and need not be
typed. Next, you'll be asked if there's a matching CONTROL.DAT file for that
configuration. Since you're renamed it, enter the new name of the .DAT file.
The ".DAT" extension is assumed.
The program will read those files and cross-reference them to the conference
list already loaded. You may repeat this operation for ALL of your TNET
configuration files. Once you've loaded them all, press [ENTER] alone when
asked for the next config file, and CONFXREF will read TOMCAT.CFG if it's
available, and then produce the output file, called "CONFXREF.RPT" This is
a plain ASCII file and may be copied directly to your printer, if desired.
There are form feeds at each page break.
PROBLEMS, SUGGESTIONS:
======================
This program is public domain. I don't seek or accept any donations or
registration fees for any of my Wildcat! utility programs, including
TODAYBBS, FLOP, MSTAT, USTAT, and others ... however I invite you to
read the short textfile "SHARE" enclosed in this ZIPfile. It suggests
that you make a contribution to YOUR favorite charity if you find this
program useful.
I welcome suggestions, and will try to help (no guarantees) if there are
problems.
You may contact me at The Charlatan's Cabin BBS (213) 654-7337. Mention
your Wildcat! registration number in the comment and you'll be upgraded to
visiting sysop level without the usually required registration by mail.
You may also leave a message via CompuServe EMail. My CompuServe account
number is 70250,220. I also regularly check the Mustang Software head-
quarters BBS, especially the "3rd Party Utilities Help" conference.
Please, NO VOICE CALLS. This isn't meant to be unfriendly, but with the
price of public domain software these days ... I just can't afford to be
"on call." I WILL respond to your questions via my BBS or CompuServe,
or via the Mustang Software registered SysOp BBS.
